Telephone and On-Line Web Cam Sessions

 

Some of my clients who are not located in Calgary found that the amount of time and expense that was required to come into the city for a face-to-face therapy session prevented them from receiving the help they needed.  So, I began to selectively offer remote therapy sessions via telephone or web-cam.  The feedback that these clients gave me was so positive I decided to offer this service anyone who was interested.

One client said, “this is great, I feel like I can really open up because I am in the comfort of my own home”.  Another client said, “thanks so much the four-hour drive into town was really getting in the way of me getting the help I need”.

 

Requirements for an telephone session:

1. I recommend a long-distance telephone plan.  Since we will be talking on the phone for at least an hour a few times a month, a long distance plan may save you some money.  

2. A Visa, MasterCard, or American Express for payment of service.  For all new clients, this must be provided up front at the beginning of the session along with basic information to open a file, such as name, address, phone numbers, etc.    

 

Requirements for an on-line session:

1. A sound system: either built into the computer or microphones can be purchased externally.

2. A visual system: either built into the computer or web-cams can purchased externally.

3. A high speed internet connection: The basic high speed can work, however, upgrading to the next level will provide a more consistent transmission without interruption.  The higher the speed, the better the visual and audio transmission. 

4. A free account with Skype http://www.skype.com/ which will allow you to make calls from your computer for free.  When you register, you will have to create a Skype name that is attached to an e-mail address.  Be prepared to provide your Skype name so that it can be added to my Skype list.  When you set up a Skype session for the first time, the therapist will provide their Skype name.
